A Note From Outreach & Justice:
Thank you for giving me time at the Annual Life of the Church meeting to share about the MN Sanctuary State Coalition (MSSC). I hope to follow that by giving a couple of brief facts in eNews each week.
, provided by Syracuse University, is an excellent source of information regarding immigration enforcement. Below are two up-to-date statistics from this site.
As you can see from the first graph, detentions are down significantly from two years ago, due in part to COVID.
The second statistic is perhaps one of the most misrepresented about immigrant detention. Three of four immigrant detainees have NO criminal record. Those who do have a criminal record have already had their “day in court,” and the US criminal court then releases them to ICE for deportation. Immigration court is overseen by an administrative judge. These judges are appointed by the US Attorney General.
If you have questions about these or other aspects of immigrant detention, please let me know. I will do my best to provide an answer, perhaps including it in a future eNews.
Are you curious what the organization, SARI, is and does?
SARI - Sanctuary & Resistance to Injustice is a faith-based organization fighting for an end to immigration raids and deportations. They meet remotely on the 2nd Monday of each month and conduct a vigil every Wednesday at the Sherburne County Courthouse from 3:30-4:30 pm.
for more information.

"Growing and living in faith requires an inquiring mind, not merely a sponge. Ask questions, ask harder questions, formulate possible answers, then ask more questions and reflect with others on those questions and possible answers. Develop your hermeneutics of suspicion. Doubt the easy answers and simple responses. Seek and find answers from your own and other’s experiences, from the traditions you have inherited, from the incredible reasoning of your amazing mind and other’s equally amazing minds, and yes, from the scripture stories of the people of faith who came before us."
